How LED Door Sill Plates Work
An illuminated door sill combines a rigid threshold plate, visible artwork and a wired power lead. Connected to a suitable door-activated vehicle circuit, it can light when you open the door.
The plate carries the artwork
The Ford Mustang V S197 2005-2015 version is a stainless steel door sill made for the Mustang application. The rigid plate sits on a flat painted metal threshold, and its visible logo and light bars are part of the artwork.
On this Stainless Steel version, illumination passes through the Mustang logo, the top light bars and the side edge. The artwork and the lighted areas belong together: a visible line or emblem does not automatically mean that it illuminates.

The power lead feeds the light
This accessory is wired and does not use replaceable batteries. The Ford version has a red positive wire and a black negative wire that connect to a suitable vehicle power source.
Adhesive backing secures the plate to prepared metal, with the wiring routed beneath interior trim. The connection point depends on the vehicle and product instructions, so do not assume one layout fits every vehicle.
The vehicle circuit controls when it lights
Connecting the sill to a door-activated circuit allows the illumination to switch on when the door opens. The lead carries power from that circuit to the sill. The circuit belongs to the vehicle connection; it is not an extra item included in the plate.

Light zones depend on the finish
On the Mustang Stainless Steel version, the illuminated areas are the logo, top light bars and side edge. A Matte PRO product can use a different light zone. In the BMW X3 E83 Matte PRO example, only the top X3 lettering illuminates; the ABS edge and lower surface remain unlit.
