Can LED Door Sills Be Installed Over Factory Plastic Trim?
Our standard overlay LED door sills mount on the flat painted metal threshold. The interior plastic trim is not the mounting surface for this product family.
Identify the separate surfaces
With the door open, look at the painted metal entry surface and the interior plastic trim beside it. The metal area may narrow, curve or step down before it reaches a seal. For a stocked model, compare that geometry with the plate shown in the selected listing.
A broad plastic panel can make the doorway look large enough while the usable metal underneath is too narrow. If the listing or doorway is unclear, measure only the flat metal that could support the plate, as described in the size guide. Leave the plastic panel and curved edge out of the mounting width.
Trim access is different from replacing the trim
An installer may need to loosen selected interior trim to route the wiring. That does not mean the LED overlay replaces the factory plastic sill panel. The overlay’s mounting surface and the wire-access route serve different purposes.
Follow the vehicle’s service information for trim access. A photograph from another model is not a removal instruction; use the correct procedure for your vehicle. Check that the original trim can return to position without pinching a wire.
Recognize an OEM replacement listing
An OEM replacement-style assembly uses a different construction and installation method. It needs a match to the specific vehicle and replacement part arrangement. Do not apply the overlay mounting instructions to it, or buy it as a workaround for an unsuitable metal area.
If there is no suitable flat metal area
If you cannot identify a suitable metal area, ask for help with a doorway photo and your vehicle details. Keep the plate off an unsuitable surface; do not modify the vehicle to force a fit. For a matching listed set, no support approval is needed to place an order.
